South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority has issued an arrest warrant for Grace Mugabe, wife of the former president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, in South Africa.
Minority rights group AfriForum announced during a press conference on Wednesday that the warrant was issued against Grace Mugabe on allegations for allegedly assaulting a model, Gabriella Engels at a hotel in Johannesburg in 2017.
“We can confirm that the warrant of arrest has been issued for Grace Mugabe,” said AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel.
“It seems justice is going to take place and we are looking forward to this matter going forward.”
Mrs. Mugabe allegedly assaulted the model, Gabriella Engels after she found her partying with her two sons at a Sandton hotel.
The South African government had in August accepted a court ruling which declared the diplomatic immunity granted to Mrs. Mugabe as invalid. This lead to the matter been referred back to the NPA.
